MELLAH NUMB

We’ve come to realise here at TMR that new material from Mellah is almost always a good thing. From his creative self-directed music videos to the carefully-crafted alt-pop bangers they accompany, (see List Picks 'Paseo' and 'Cigarette Lighter') you can consider us well and truly captivated by this multi-talented individual. Taken from his recently-released EP Middle England, ‘Numb’ is the latest track to get Mellah’s video treatment. He explained, “Numb is about feeling disenfranchised and marginalised from society and its norms. Norms that dictate from birth how we view ourselves and our contemporaries and who we look up or down to. It’s also about feeling numb in the face of injustice, when you feel helpless to change it, and worse when you know that your standing in the world is likely a part of the reason that the injustice exists in the first place. I wanted to make a video that was sensory and tactile. We shot it all really close on a thermal imaging camera to try and convey the sense of touch. It was great fun to shoot, I even had a rather large snake around my neck at one point. You can see it in there if you watch closely.” Check it out here now. -Holly Mullineaux
